About Us

Beth El Preschool is the only cooperative Jewish preschool in Montgomery County, MD.  We follow a play-based approach and nurture all aspects of the child, including physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual.  Play is a child’s work and an essential component of our program.  BEPS draws on the very best of many developmentally-appropriate practices – incorporating elements of the Reggio-Emilia philosophy and emergent, inquiry-based learning into our approach.

Our highly-trained, experienced teachers provide a stimulating, accepting, and supportive preschool environment for children. Their warmth and skills develop young learners and help foster positive self-esteem in each child. Teachers provide a variety of activities in all areas of the curriculum which includes interpersonal skills, as well as early literacy, science, math, music and movement, and social studies skills. Much of the day-to-day activity in the classroom is based on the interests of the children.  Combining child-centered learning alongside teacher-initiated curriculum provides children with both an active role in and structure around their learning.  As early childhood professionals, our teachers provide a well-integrated Jewish and secular program for children and their families.

Beth El Preschool believes strongly in inquiry-based and hands-on learning.  By empowering our children to seek out answers on their own in a guided environment – asking questions, solving problems, collaborating with others, and making discoveries – they gain essential skills, including critical thinking, self-confidence, and independence.

Beyond the classrooms, BEPS provides a strong and thriving community for all of our families.  Our programming extends well beyond the school day and encompasses social, religious, and tzedekah-based activities.  Parent involvement is essential to our school – we truly believe it takes a village to raise engaged, active learners and robust, well-rounded children.  The BEPS community provides the foundation for lifelong friendships for both our children and their families.
